getting started
What it is, what you get
What is Label Generator?
A browser tool for designing and printing custom labels.
Do I need an account?
No — the Arrange tool (uploading an image and tiling it on a sheet) works without sign-in. A free account unlocks saved designs, the visual editor, mail merge, and the full template library.
Is it free?
The Free tier stays free forever: 3 saved designs, 20 fonts, 8 templates, and PNG/JPG plus watermarked PDF export. Pro unlocks unlimited designs, all 48+ fonts, 35 templates, SVG and clean PDF export, mail merge, brand kits, and more.

Designing a label
What’s the difference between "Design" and "Arrange"?
Design (the editor at
/create) is where you build one label — text, shapes, images, QR codes, effects. Arrange (/arrange) is where you take a label image and tile it onto a sheet of paper (A4, Letter, or any custom size) for printing. Most workflows use both: design once, arrange many. Can I upload my own images and logos?
Yes. In the editor, open the Images panel on the sidebar and drag-drop or click to upload. Pro users can also save logos into a Brand Kit for reuse across designs.
How do I add a QR code or barcode?
Open the editor sidebar → Add Element → QR Code or Barcode. Paste the URL or data, pick a format (Code 128 / EAN-13 / UPC-A / Code 39 for barcodes), and click Generate. The element is added to your label and you can resize/rotate it freely.
Can I drag inputs to change values?
Yes. Click and drag the label of any numeric field (or, on compact inputs, the input itself) to scrub the value live. Hold
Shift for 10× speed, Alt for fine 0.1×. Works in the editor, on the Arrange page, in the gradient and color pickers, and in the label-size dialog. One Ctrl+Z undoes the whole drag, so sweep freely if you overshoot. Can I preview my label on a 3D product?
Yes. In the editor, click the 3D preview icon in the top bar (or press
Shift+P) to see your label wrapped around a jar, bottle, or box. Drag to rotate, scroll to zoom, and download a PNG — perfect for Etsy listings, Instagram, or client approvals. You can also open a 3D preview directly from any saved design on your dashboard. Free accounts get a watermarked PNG; Pro accounts get a clean file. Can I import a design from Canva or Illustrator?
Not directly, but the workflow is simple: in Canva/Illustrator, export your label as a high-resolution PNG or PDF. Then come to the Arrange page, upload the image, set your paper size and grid, and export a print-ready PDF. Common reason to go this route: you already have polished artwork and just need the tiling step.
How do I share a design with a teammate?
Team workspaces are on the roadmap but not yet shipped. For now, easiest options: (1) export the design as a PNG/SVG/PDF and send the file, or (2) share your Label Generator login if you both work from the same account. We'll ship real share-link and team-seat support once the Business tier launches.

What paper sizes can I use?
A4 and US Letter are presets. Any other paper size is also supported — enter custom width and height in mm or inches on the Arrange page. Bleed and crop marks (Pro) are available for professional printers.
How do I make sure my labels print at the correct size?
When printing the exported PDF, always choose Actual Size(also called "100%" or "None / No scaling") in your print dialog. Do NOT choose "Fit to page" — that resizes everything and your labels will be wrong. If in doubt, print one test page and measure with a ruler.
Will my labels print at exactly the right physical size on every printer?
Yes — as long as you pick Actual Sizein the print dialog. The PDF carries exact mm dimensions. Every desktop and office printer we've tested respects those dimensions when scaling is off. Exception: consumer inkjets running in "fit to page" or "borderless" mode will distort. Print one test page first if you're printing a large run on an unfamiliar printer.
What file formats can I export?
Free: PNG, JPG, watermarked PDF. Pro: PNG/JPG at high-res (up to 4×), clean PDF (no watermark), SVG for vector workflows, and Arrange PDF with any sheet layout.
Do you support bleed and crop marks?
Yes — Pro users can set a bleed value (typically 3 mm) and toggle crop marks on the Arrange page. Bleed extends your artwork past the label edge so die-cutting tolerance doesn't leave white edges.
bulk / mail merge
Printing a list of unique labels
How do I print many unique labels?
Click the Bulk icon in the left rail (or press
B). A panel opens with a data grid. Right-click any text on your label and pick “Use a list for this text…” to turn it into a variable. Type your values into the grid — each row prints one label. Pro feature.I have my list in a spreadsheet. Can I import it?
Yes. In the Bulk panel, click Import CSV (top-right of the panel) or drag your .csv file onto the panel. Columns auto-match your existing variables by name. Max 5MB.
How do I turn text into a variable?
Right-click the text on your label and pick “Use a list for this text…”. The text becomes an amber chip on the canvas showing the column name. A row is auto-added to the grid with your original text. Fill in more rows with different values.
Can I preview how row #47 will look?
Yes. When the Bulk panel is open and you have data, the canvas automatically shows your first row's values. Use the Row stepper at the bottom of the panel to step through any row — the canvas updates live.
Can I skip some rows?
Yes. Each row has a checkbox on the left. Uncheck the rows you don't want to print. The Print N labels button updates to show the count.
Does curved text work with variables?
Not in v1. If you turn a curved text layer into a variable, the curve is removed (you'll see a quick notice). Use curves for fixed text and straight text for variables. We plan to lift this in a future update.
I have old designs with {{placeholder}} — do they still work?
Yes. On open, any
{{column_name}} text auto-migrates into the new variable chips and the Bulk panel pre-populates the matching columns. No re-work needed. How do sequential numbers work?
Add a Sequential Number element to your design, set a starting number and format (e.g.,
INV-0001), and the number auto-increments per label on Bulk print or repeated export. Pro feature.brand kits · pro
Keeping it on-brand
What's included in a Brand Kit?
A Brand Kit stores your brand's colors (with roles: Primary, Secondary, Accent, Neutral), fonts (with roles: Heading, Body, Accent), and logos (with variants: Primary, Mono-Dark, Mono-Light, Icon). Each Pro user gets 3 kits.
What is "Apply Brand"?
One-click remap of any design to match your brand kit. It replaces off-brand colors with the nearest match from your palette, swaps fonts to the role-appropriate brand font, and auto-picks the right logo variant for the background. Runs as a single atomic change with full Undo.
What’s the Brand Validator?
A pre-export check that scans your design for colors, fonts, and logos that don't match your brand kit. The header shield icon turns amber when something's off. On export, you can pick per-issue which ones to fix via the Brand Check dialog, then proceed. Keeps print-ready work on-brand.
What's CMYK and why do I need it?
CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) is how printers mix ink. Your screen shows RGB, which doesn't always translate to press output. Label Generator shows CMYK values plus the nearest spot-color reference for every color — so you can hand a printer exact values and get predictable results. Out-of-gamut colors (unprintable on press) are flagged so you can adjust before it costs you a print run.
Where do the extracted colors, fonts, and logo come from?
We query Brandfetch (a public brand directory) for your URL, then fall back to reading the site's HTML and CSS if Brandfetch doesn't have an entry. Brandfetch publishes a public brand page at
brandfetch.com/{domain} for every URL checked. Only use this for URLs you own. What if the extractor can only find some of my brand?
Some sites (especially JS-heavy or single-page apps) hide their colors behind runtime code we can't read. We'll show what we found and flag that it's limited — you can still create a kit with the partial info, or try a different URL. You can always add missing pieces manually in the kit editor.
If I re-extract the same URL, does it count against my quota?
Yes — each extraction consumes one of your three monthly lookups, even when we've cached the result. This keeps the quota simple and predictable.
